Manuka honey is made from nectar from the flowers of the manuka tree. The manuka tree grows in New Zealand and contains the substance methylglyoxal (MGO), which is transferred to the honey and distinguishes manuka honey from other honey. The amount of MGO in the honey varies and is shown on Manuka Health products by a number describing how many milligrams of MGO the honey contains per kilogram. These throat lozenges contain manuka honey with an MGO value of at least 400.
